What to Expect

01

The Weekly Rhythm

Practices typically run 3× a week (Mon/Tue/Thu) with games on Saturdays. Cheer may practice on alternate days — your coach confirms your team's exact schedule.

02

Home & Away

Home games are at Larry Thoenissen Field behind the George Mullen Center. Away games can be up to an hour out — carpools and caravans are a Bobcat tradition.

Game Day Expectations

The Sideline Standard

Kids play their best when the sideline is positive. Bobcat parents set the tone — here’s how we do game day.

  • Bring the energy. Cheer loud for every kid on both teams — and on game day, let players hear one voice: their coaches’.
  • The 24-Hour Rule. Upset about something that happened at a game or practice? Wait 24 hours before contacting the coach. Emotions cool, kids move on fast, and the conversation that follows is always more productive. Never approach a coach or official during or immediately after a game.
  • Stay off the field. Per AYF rules, only credentialed coaches and team staff are permitted on the field and team sideline. Parents and fans cheer from the spectator side — every time, no exceptions.
  • Respect the officials. Refs make calls we don’t love. Modeling how to handle that is part of what our kids learn on Saturdays.

The full expectations are in our Code of Conduct (PDF), which every family signs at registration.

Playing Time

Every Bobcat Plays

AYF requires a minimum play count for every athlete, every game — it’s tracked during play, not left to chance. Development matters more than the scoreboard.

Questions or concerns about your athlete’s playing time? After the 24-hour rule, bring them to Mike Knipp — not the sideline.
